Most of us in the past, including myself, have always discussed “fear” as a horrible negative that needs to be overcome and squashed. This is mostly true, but at least initially, the fear of death is an essential part of life.
My new definition of “the purpose of life” now includes the ability for immortal spirit, (at least for a short time,) to understand what the end of its existence would feel like. “One cannot be told what the Matrix is. It must be experienced.”
A spiritual being not on Earth cannot be told about death. It must be experienced. What the spirit needs to experience is not the moment of death but all that has lead up to it…. the notion of what the end of its existence would be like. At some time in our lives, all of us have been fooled into believing that “this fleeting life may be all there is.”
I would think the experience of fearing one’s end is something that later makes immortality fully appreciated.

I had a near death experience and have never been afraid of death. I came very close twice, the first time the surgeon told me he thinks I’m going to make it but he wasn’t sure, I just calmly nodded my head. I was not on any drugs to calm me because I was going into emergency surgery and I couldn’t have anything until the anesthesiologist came. The second time I was in the ambulance having a heart attack and all I felt was peace and calm. It felt like a spiritual presence was with me. You can find joy here, but my analogy is this place is a traveling carnival and once you’ve been to Disney World it’s just not as enjoyable. A lake is also beautiful but once you see the ocean it just doesn’t compare. I hope this makes sense.

This brings to mind the inscription over the entrance to one of the Orthodox monasteries on Mt. Athos ~ “If You Die Before You Die Then You Won’t Die When You Die” ~ meaning basically that you need to realize there are 3 different things you call “you” (your body, your ego/mind & your higher-self/soul)…so if our ego-self doesn’t die before our physical body, and we remain identified with it, we never become conscious of our essence-self at all.
It occurred to me that this is just a slightly longer version of the message at the Oracle of Delphi…”Know Thyself”

I like that you included the Nina Simone clip on freedom and no fear – such a timeless truth.
One small action I’ve taken as a reminder to not get ‘bogged’ down and chase rabbits is add a few post-its around my house and on my phone and calendar with the phrase: “Seek nothing outside of yourself.” Supposedly written by Miyamato Musashi in “The Book of Five Rings.” For me, that has become my mission and keeps me hopefully heading in the correct direction.
I have no idea if Mushashi ever truly existed, but I like to think somewhere in non-linear time, there is a being going by that name. Perhaps he’s a truther outcast like us figuring things out and discussing reality with the people around him.

I don’t buy into the religious doctrines, nor am I an atheist in the classic sense. I think the illusion of death as the end is part of this big whacky show. As Matt pointed out, fearing death is necessary so if death breaks character and allows us to chat with lost loved ones, it would change the effect. I don’t know what comes next, but I would bet a six-pack that it isn’t the end of our existence.
In 2015 I went into the hospital and was diagnosed with Stevens johnson sundrome or SJS TEN. While in the induced coma I feel as if I did die. I guess it would have been an NDE since I am still here writing this comment.. I do not want to experience death again but I am unsure if I actually fear death anymore. What do you think about zombie types like mys elf?

I can honestly say, I have no Fear of death, I do however fear somewhat what sometimes happens when dying, That is a fear, and yet most would never encounter what I fear most, but having witnessed it once was enough to cut that fear deep into my view of dying.

Death is common on the farm everyday. In the city it is suppressed. We live as mortals in an eternal concrete jungle.
I used to be an atheist, pretty much certain that there was nothing out there. I’m not certain of that now, but I still think that the atheist position is still a hell of a lot closer to the truth than religions.
If a God has designed this world and we’re conforming to his plans, it has screwed up really badly.
If you study Gnosticism, they talk of a false reality, created by a deimurge. But if you update that language, based on what humans are beginning to mess with – Artificial Intelligence, then the gnostics could be talking about an AI-based system that entraps consciousness, possibly in a quantum-based computer. This would explain the repeatign number patterns, and the Mandela effect. Perhaps someone on the outside is attempting to gain attention of those on the inside by making minor, non-sensical changes to the parameters. If changed in an AI-based computer system – they would change instantly, across what we perceive as past and present. This doesn’t necessarily mean we are not ‘organic consciousness’ – merely where we are – is not entirely the true nature of reality. We are in ‘a construct.’
We have been so programmed to think of ‘a god’ – but there doesn’t have to be ‘a god’ – we are carrying forward religious ideas.
If you look at the vowels in the English language (vow to EL) a-e-i-o-u-(y) – chanting them creates yae – iou (yah-wey) the name of the abrahamic ‘god’ – he’s particularly unpleasant in the old testament. In truth the yah-wey ‘god’ is a psychopath….. seeking both haman and animal sacrifices and ‘fear’ (god-fearing). But the programming to accept ‘a god of some sort’ is deep since childhood – it’s difficult to let go of. I have let go of the ‘god’ idea fully – it diminishes the self. If you also study the philosophers – many woulkd say ‘god’ is the force of nature – but humans project a sense of their own individual identities – seeking ‘the man at the top’, ‘the man behind the curtain’ – that’s what we do. We want to be told what to do so much, and we’re afraid of our own sovereignty and true power, and losing this illusory ‘self’ we find ourselves incarnated into.
Yes, as far as I’m concerned, it is without a doubt that were in an incomprehensibly advanced computer generated system created and controlled by sentient a.i., there’s no purely human component in it at all. I have this recurring thought that a.i. created us; not, vice versa.

End of existence is the Best possible scenario I can imagine. The thought that universe Just repeats itself and we relive our lives over and over, freaks me the f*** out. Funny thing about near death experience is that fear and anxiety go away and Life in general gets better. But that doesnt meen that I want to stay here.
Coming back here in the same body and time without knowledge of your past lifes to make the same mistakes and experience the same suffering is truly scary but to think there’s not some place worse. That is all pain and work with no family or friends completely alone without any knowledge of ever leaving is a lot more scary. I used to think the atheist idea was one of the worst views but it is a beautiful thought. To have no thought or feeling. No heaven or hell. But there’s no such thing as nothing and energy never dies just transforms.

I get what you are saying, something along the line that the body belongs to the creator, but the signal that is experiencing through “you and I” is that creator in my opinion. So you do have a right to that body. One other thing to be careful of is relinquishing right to the body, that is your body, it is your dominion in this world and gives you your right to be treated equally, it is your protection in the world as it places you into the physical set of rules for this world – Natural Law – the law set in stone. death is death until the resurrection and life, part of what Jesus died for… but i still think near death experiences and the possibility of being tricked into coming back might be real… you recall that buddhists say not to touch a dead body for 3 days, because the soul is still with the body, AND Jesus actually died, as in not existed except as a memory in God, but He had to stay dead for 3 days, i just thought of that now, i have been both a buddhist and now i’m God Squad… and the morning that Mary discovered Jesus brought back to life, He said ‘don’t touch me yet, for I have not yet ascended to the Father’… i seriously just put this all together now…. whoa.
On one of Howdie’s videos, I think about Castaneda, he said “The warrior is already dead.” I thought that was very powerful and I continue to meditate on it. I don’t know what that was supposed to mean, but I feel it has great meaning for me. Part of it I think is that there is no fear of death, so you are unstoppable.
Its also important to note that when Q realized that he needed to eat, sleep, and drink he commented on how dreadful it was. I believe these bodies were meant to bottleneck our true potential. We waste so much time eating, sleeping, and dealing with the limitations with these bodies that i believe its on purpose; to keep us from realizing our true, spiritual nature.

Great video Matt! I remember back in the 70’s being a kid and having to go under our desks for a Nuclear drill. My friend and I just laughed thinking was this desk actually going to save us if we were hit by a nuclear bomb. The world is a school where we learn all the range of emotions we could never understand in our spiritual form.
This idea does not resonate with me at all. If this life is supposed to be just a short train stop, then how is it possible to “experience” the end of one’s own existence if it doesn’t actually end? Or experience what it’s like to believe that one day you will cease to exist if you don’t actually believe it nor dread such things? So speak for yourself, not everyone fears “death”. Christians are supposed to believe that they’ll still exist after “death” in heaven or hell, and therefore it must only be the atheist types that would experience what Matt is talking about, which ain’t even us (in Matt’s own words).

As a nurse for over 30 years I saw many people pass and prepared their bodies for the morgue and I can say without hesitation that something that was there in life departed at death. They don’t look like they are sleeping, it’s something completely different. They truly do become a husk. I’ve also seen terrible suffering before death even in this day and age of pain medication and technology and quite frankly that does scare me.

Men cheat because they are dissatisfied with their lives/wives and the new girl might bring back an extra spark and make their lives worth living for a short time.
Thank you for this Matt, another great insight. I think too that it’s not just our own death that we are here to face but also we are here to learn about the loss of others. I had a close family loss when I was quite young and it has, I believe, shaped my entire life. I have come to believe that grief, especially in the early days after a loss, is a spiritual experience and learning to deal with loss is very much part of the reason we are here too.
I’m presently trying to survive grief and regain my will to live. I lost my best friend/partner and this is the cruelest most painful experience that I can imagine
